Here you find a short overview about the installation of Windows XP POS Ready 2009 (based on Windows XP Professional)
and the activation of FBWF to prevent writing operations on your system or your CF card.
Installation process of Windows XP POS Ready
- (01) First you have to boot from Windows XP POS Ready 2009 DVD. The setup screen will appear after loading
- (02) Then you have to choose the installation method. At the first step we are trying the interactive setup
- (03) Then you have to enter your product key. Otherwise you can not continue the installation process.
- (04) Now you have to agree to the license agreement of Microsoft.
- (05) Next you must enter your registration data.
- (06) You are able to add required storage drivers.
- (07) Now you have to select the partition where you want to install Windows XP POS Ready
- (08) On the next screen you are able to select the file system, volume label and drive letter.
- (09) Now it is time to select your own language settings.
- (10) On this screen you have to select the regional settings.
- (11) Here you must select the installation type.
- (12) If you choose "Custom" you have to select the components which should be installed to your system
- (13) Here you have to choose whether you want to use the virtual memory (page file).
- (14) Now you have to specify the computer name and the password.
- (15) Here you can specify IP adress, DNS and WINS server. If you use a DHCP server in your network you can click easily on "Next".
- (16) Here you can specify workgroup or domain login.
- (17) Now you will see an overview about your installation. Please "Install" to start the installation
- (18) Here you can follow the installation process.
- (19) After installation the computer will be rebooted.
- (20) Now it is time for the first start of Windows XP POS Ready
- (21-24) The first boot agent will finish the rest of the installation (installation of drivers, modifying the registry and so on)
- (25) As soon as the FBA has finished the installation you can login to your system.
- (26) After login your windows will be customized.
- (27) Now it is time to activate FBWF (file based write filter) so we have to change to the console with "cmd".
- (28) You can enable FBWF with the command "fbwfmgr /enable". Then you have to reboot the system.
- (29) After reboot you have to add your volume with "fbwfmgr /addvolume C:" If you want to use FBWF with other volumes you have to change the drive letter.
- (30) With "fbwfmgr" you can see whether FBWF is active. If you want to test it please create a folder or a file and then reboot your system. The folder/file was not saved.
